Brooke's Story

My story starts off as one might expect considering the place I was at in my life. I was desperately trying to escape domestic violence, addiction, and searching for a light amidst the pain and solidary fight for my life, hope, and custody of my child.

When I was first introduced to the Linda Krystina Housing Society I was absolutely terrified. I was welcomed with gentle care and soft voices while being introduced to a safe, secure, and consistent environment where I could begin to heal, talk, and attend classes to begin the journey back to finding myself. Building that trust I had lost and the people who had love for me, as well as paving the road back towards the ultimate goal, reunification with the light of my heart, my daughter. The consistent reassurance and honesty of the support workers has surprised me beyond words and helped heal my ability to trust.

I've since found my voice and actively search out ways to help other people now that my journey has ended here only to begin somewhere that is safe, supportive and surrounded by women as well as we were when we were here. A second stage transition home. The support given by the women who work at this house to help me into a treatment program was unbelievable to say the least and continued long after my treatment program ended when me and my daughter needed help. I was able to reach out and immediately have access to their services and I'm forever thankful. The way my daughter has been able to heal, vocalize her experience and grow as a child who has witnessed violence is relieving as a mother who has always tried the best to shield her from it.

My daughter was welcomed into a beautiful make-shift family that provided for her and myself and helped us grow as a family and as individuals. I can confidently say I'm a completely different person from when I first stepped foot into the Linda Krystina House and I've never been more confident, happy and secure in who I am and my ability to provide for, and keep my daughter safe and secure.

Thank you for taking the time to read a small part of my story, I have the rest of my life to create the rest thanks to this house. My spirit has found its way home and I can walk the rest of my road with that knowledge intact.

DS's Story

Through community supports I found LKSH and was moved there right away. Instantly I felt more safe and secure and had all the support I needed to heal my pain and get sober.

Almost immediately after arriving I was granted overnight visits with my son. I started working on the 12 steps of the NA program, had weekly support with counseling and other community support geared to improve my life and the well-being of my son. It wasn’t long before my unhealthy weight began to improve, as well as my physical and mental health.

The encouragement and heartfelt kindness I’ve received from all the staff here has made a huge difference in my life and has built a newfound sense of trust and belief in myself and others. Embracing all there is to offer here has given me a sense of peace and tranquility.

After my time at LKSH, I moved into my very own home, clean and sober and working an honest NA program. My son is due to come back home with me for good in the very near future. I’ve been able to do all of this because of the help and support of the women at LKSH! I finally feel whole again.

B's Story

I felt safe, loved and very much cared for. There were some bumps and rough edges, but the staff here were very helpful and modest, and made sure I was comfortable here. They made sure I had food, clothing and other necessities. I felt very welcomed by other attendees and ended up with some new friends which I can call family. I had the help I needed thanks to this safe and friendly place.
